Spoolery is a privacy minded 3D printing inventory and project journal. It is operated by an independent developer and does not require an account. We do not show ads, use advertising identifiers or track you across apps and websites.

Most processing happens on your device. Limited information leaves your device only when you use iCloud sync, enable cloud recognition, allow anonymous usage counts, make a purchase through Apple or contact us.

This policy explains what information is processed, why it is needed, where it goes and the choices available to you. It is intended to support applicable privacy laws, including the GDPR, the CCPA and relevant local privacy requirements.

Information we process and why

Records you create. Spoolery stores the information you choose to add, including filament details, brands, materials, colors, weights, prices, notes, make photos, stickers and usage records. This information is used only to provide the collection, tracking and cost features you request.

These records are stored on your device. We do not receive them unless a specific optional feature described below requires a limited part of the content.

Launch notifications

If you subscribe to launch notifications on our website, we store the email address you submit and your page language so we can notify you when Spoolery launches. This information is stored by Cloudflare and is not used for advertising or sold to anyone.

Website analytics

When you visit spoolery.app, we count the page view and record only a broad source category, such as Direct, Google, Bing, ChatGPT, Perplexity, another search engine, social media or another referral. We do not store the full referring URL, UTM text, search terms, cookies, device identifiers or a stable visitor ID. The source category is kept only for the current browser tab so navigation within the site stays attributed to the original source. Aggregate counts help us understand how people discover the website.

Camera and photo library

Spoolery asks for camera or photo library access only when you choose to scan a filament label, import an order image or photograph a make. Apple Vision, text recognition and sticker cutout processing run on your device by default.

Photos you choose to save as part of a make remain in your Spoolery records on your device and, if iCloud sync is enabled, in your private iCloud database. Spoolery does not read photos you have not selected.

Optional cloud recognition

You can turn cloud recognition on or off in Settings. When enabled, Spoolery may send limited content through our relay at api.spoolery.app to an AI service provider so it can interpret a filament label or suggest a short name for a make.

• For a filament label or order, Spoolery sends text that Apple Vision has already read on your device. It does not send the original label or order photo.
• For make naming, Spoolery sends one JPEG image reduced to a maximum of 512 pixels on its longest side.
• The cloud recognition provider is Zhipu AI.

Our relay saves cloud-generated make names, structured filament recognition results, request time, model, sanitized prompt configuration, and quality review notes in a private Cloudflare database to help us evaluate and improve recognition. We do not save original photos or order OCR text in this database, and do not attach account or device identifiers. The AI provider processes the content under its own terms and may retain or use it as those terms allow. Do not submit content that is sensitive, confidential or includes another person's personal information.

You can turn cloud recognition off at any time in Spoolery Settings. All core record keeping features remain available without it.

Filament recognition feedback

In app versions that support this feature, saving a new filament can send the recognized candidate, catalog match (including its catalog source), and final saved filament fields to our private Cloudflare database. This includes local recognition, unmatched scans completed manually, and direct manual entry. No photo, order OCR, account or device identifier is included. This feedback is enabled by default and can be disabled under “Improve filament recognition” in Settings. Disabling it also clears pending uploads. Existing saved filaments are not uploaded retroactively. Feedback is retained for recognition quality evaluation until removed by the operator.

iCloud sync

iCloud sync is on by default when iCloud is available. Apple CloudKit stores your Spoolery records in the private database of your own Apple account so they can sync across your devices. The data uses your iCloud storage and is governed by Apple's terms and privacy policy.

We cannot view or manage the content of your private iCloud database. You can turn sync off in Spoolery Settings. The change takes effect after you reopen the App.

Anonymous usage counts

Usage stats is on by default and can be turned off. When enabled, Spoolery sends an event name, the App version, the interface language, a random code that lasts only for the current App session, and a separate random code that lasts only for the current local calendar day. Events also include their order within a session and a broad elapsed time range, not an exact action time.

The event does not include a name, email address, user ID, advertising ID, photo, filament record or note. The random session code is replaced after a cold launch, 30 minutes without activity, or 24 hours at the latest. It is not reused across sessions or combined with IP addresses, accounts, device identifiers, website activity or third-party data. The daily code is generated randomly on the device, replaced when the local calendar day changes, and is not derived from a permanent installation or device identifier. It lets us summarize multiple App launches and actions on the same day as one anonymous device-day, but cannot link activity across days. A separate random event code is hashed and kept for up to 72 hours only to reject duplicate network retries. These statistics help us understand feature paths without building a persistent profile.

You can turn Usage stats off at any time in Spoolery Settings. Turning it off deletes pending usage events and the current session and daily codes from the device.

Purchases

The full unlock and tips are processed by Apple through the App Store. Apple handles your payment details. We receive only the transaction information needed for StoreKit to confirm your purchase and restore access.

Information we do not collect

We do not ask for or create a Spoolery account. We do not collect your name, postal address, phone number, Apple ID, contacts, calendar, messages, precise location or advertising identifier. We do not use cookies, fingerprinting, advertising SDKs or cross app tracking.

If you email us, we receive your email address and anything you choose to include in the message so we can reply.

Legal basis

Where the GDPR or similar law applies, we process information as needed to provide the features you request, based on your choices and consent for optional permissions and cloud recognition, and for our legitimate interest in understanding aggregate feature use. You can withdraw permission or disable an optional feature at any time.

For California residents, we do not sell personal information or share it for cross context behavioral advertising.

Retention and deletion

• Records on your device remain until you delete them or remove the App.
• Records synced to iCloud remain under your Apple account until you delete them through the App or manage the App's iCloud data in Apple Settings.
• Cloud recognition outputs and quality review records are retained for recognition quality evaluation until removed by the operator. Original photos and order OCR text are not retained by our relay. AI providers may retain information under their own policies.
• Session-scoped and anonymous device-day usage events are retained by Cloudflare Analytics Engine for up to three months. Network deduplication hashes are deleted after 72 hours. Neither is linked to an account or device identifier.
• Support emails remain in our mailbox for as long as reasonably needed to answer the request and keep necessary records.
• Wishlist email addresses remain until the launch notification has been sent or you ask us to delete yours.

Security

Network requests use encrypted HTTPS connections. We minimize the content sent for each optional feature, keep provider credentials on our relay rather than in the App, and do not use analytics or advertising SDKs. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we use reasonable safeguards appropriate to the limited information processed.

Your choices and rights

You can revoke camera or photo access in Apple Settings, disable cloud recognition and Usage stats in Spoolery Settings, and turn off iCloud sync. You can view, edit and delete your records inside the App.

Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction or information about how your personal information is processed. Because we do not have access to your local or private iCloud records, those records are controlled from your device and Apple account. For other requests, contact us using the address below.

Children's privacy

Spoolery is a maker utility intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Anyone under the age required by local law should use the App only with permission from a parent or guardian and should not send personal information.

Policy updates

We may update this policy when Spoolery, the law or our service providers change. We will change the date at the top of this page and provide an in App notice when a change is material.
